7 Habits In The Morning That Will Make Every Day Your Day

2 December 2020

You might not be able to wake up in the early morning at 5am everyday like the top CEOs, but a great morning routine can set the tone for the day.

Starting your morning right can mean the difference between being the office grump or being a positive ray of sunshine that brightens everyone’s day.

Here is Zenyum’s list of 7 top habits for a great morning routine.

Drink water

Drinking water in the morning hydrates your body after your sleep.

Some people like to drink lemon water in particular because it can cleanse your kidneys and liver and makes your body more alkaline. It also contains antioxidants to help you fight free radical damage.

Journal

Write down your thoughts you have in the morning. It’s a good way to clear your mind and helps you understand your thoughts and emotions better.

Writing down the things you are grateful for every day also helps you focus on the positive things to brighten your day.

You can do this while on the bus or train to work. If you frown at the thought of standing on the crowded MTR train and trying to write in a book, there are apps that you can journal in.

Meditate

Meditation helps you relieve stress and improve your focus. If you have anxiety, meditation can be very helpful to stabilise your emotions and maintain a clear mind.

Simple breathing exercises where you focus your breath and let your thoughts pass are very effective.

Work out

“But… it’s not my habit to work out in the morning!”

Even if it isn’t, consider it.

It doesn’t need to be much. A little goes a long way.

Exercise pumps your body up and your mind becomes awake and refreshed. If you are feeling incredibly stressed at work and wake up with chattering thoughts of the things you need to do in your head, exercise can also clear your mind.

Yoga and pilates are great options if you don’t want to sweat it out too much in the morning.

Shower (or at least wash up)

Some people are staunch believers of morning showers while others disagree.

What is less debatable is that washing up or showering helps you feel more refreshed and wake you up from your sleepy stupor. If you work out in the morning as we recommend, showers may almost be necessary here.

Eat breakfast

Eating breakfast makes you less hungry and focus better.

You’ll also find you have more energy to start your day instead of being lethargic until you get to your lunch break.

Even if you’re the type to wake up 20 minutes before and rush your way through your morning routine, grab a banana or bread on the way to work. It’ll go a long way to help you start your day right!

Brush your teeth

Brushing your teeth helps you maintain your dental hygiene and fresh breath (ever tried to smell your own morning breath?).

Exactly.

However, if you’re too tired to even open your eyes all the way, how do you know you’re brushing your teeth with the right amount of force and hitting all the hard-to-reach spots?

With an electric toothbrush, all you need to do is hold your toothbrush at different spots in your mouth and let it do the work. It can vibrate up to 30,000 times per minute which is more times than you’ve probably moved your toothbrush to and fro in a month.

It even beeps when your brushing time is up, meaning you can safely zone out while getting a deep clean in all the parts of your teeth that are hard to reach.

By effectively removing plaque and bacteria from your mouth, you’ll start your day with a confident smile and minty fresh breath.
