8 Common Myths about Zenyum Invisible Braces Debunked

Zenyum Invisible Braces aligner cases

Have you heard about Zenyum but are unsure whether you should start your Smile Journey with us? You may think our clear aligners can’t correct more complex cases, or that the process doesn’t involve any dentists. But that’s far from the truth.

So let’s get the facts straight! Here are 8 common myths about Zenyum Invisible Braces – debunked.

Myth 1: I've heard that Zenyum isn't the real deal

If you thought only traditional metal braces can be a solution, then you’d be pleased to know that clear aligners are equally considered in all markets as medical devices as well. What’s more, Zenyum has the appropriate local licences to import and distribute clear aligners.

Zenyum products are accredited with the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 13485:2016 certification for our medical devices in Singapore. Having met these stringent requirements for product quality, you can rest assured that your Invisible Braces are manufactured in accordance with proper regulatory compliance laws and customer needs.

Now, that’s all about our clear aligners. And what about your treatment? Who examines your smile and decides which treatment option you should go for?

To ensure your Smile Journey progresses smoothly, we work with an extensive network of locally licensed dentists and orthodontists across our 8 markets in Asia.

Your Invisible Braces treatment is prescribed by these treating dentists, who work with us to design a personalised treatment plan to transform your smile. This makes your treatment safe, and in the good hands of the qualified medical professionals we work with.

Myth 2: Zenyum Invisible Braces can’t help me if my teeth condition is more complex

Illustrations of 6 common malocclusions

Nobody is born with perfectly straight teeth. Some of us may be born with teeth that just need a little more help to straighten. The truth is, not having a beautiful smile can possibly prevent you from looking and feeling your best every day.

Although our existing range of solutions can help correct minor to more moderate cases, we’ve recently introduced more options to help those with more complicated teeth conditions. These include ZenyumClear™ Extra for more severe cases, and  ZenyumClear™ Pro – the most advanced solution that can correct the majority of malocclusions!

Using dental attachments, and procedures like Interproximal Reduction (IPR), these are designed to give your teeth a little nudge, to shift them into their correct positions.

So whether you’ve got a severe case of buck teeth, or crooked teeth that make you feel super shy, just fill in our free online Smile Assessment to see if we can help!

Myth 3: I won't be treated by a dentist

At Zenyum, every customer’s teeth are thoroughly examined by a treating dentist, who then prescribes the most suitable treatment plan to transform your smile. The partner dentist network that we work with are medically licensed professionals who can prescribe Zenyum Invisible Braces treatment.

What’s more, your treating dentist will oversee your progress throughout your Smile Journey – from the first consultation to the end of your Invisible Braces treatment.

Here’s a sneak peak of your Smile Journey:

  • Have your smile assessed to see if you’re suited for Zenyum Invisible Braces.
  • The treating dentist examines your teeth at your first consultation.
  • Receive a customised treatment plan designed by your treating dentist. Approve this plan so your aligners can be produced.
  • Attend a fitting appointment to ensure your aligners fit well.
  • Start wearing your clear aligners as advised by your treating dentist.
  • Track your progress and schedule dental appointments as necessary via the Zenyum app.

Myth 5: Zenyum isn't legit because I just have to take pictures of my teeth progress and no physical appointments are required

Zenyum incorporates both physical consultations and mobile app tracking. At the very minimum, you will be required to head to the clinic for 3 appointments:

  • To get your 3D scan and X-ray taken
  • For a fitting appointment and to collect your entire aligners set
  • For a post-treatment review

That being said, it is your treating dentist’s duty of care to take care of your treatment and they will decide how often they check on you during the treatment and when physical check-ins are necessary.

Myth 6: I'll need to have my teeth extracted to start wearing Invisible Braces. Ouch!

Your friends may have told you stories about how their teeth had to be extracted before wearing traditional braces. But in the case of clear aligners, there are two methods that your treating dentist may use to create space in your mouth for teeth movements.

The first way is Interproximal Reduction Procedure (IPR) which involves shaving off between 0.1 to 0.3 millimetres of your enamel on each side of your tooth. For those with more complex teeth conditions, teeth extraction may be done to create more space.

Ultimately, your treating dentist will decide which method is necessary depending on your teeth condition. IPR is generally preferred over teeth extraction for clear aligner treatment as your treating dentist has more control over the teeth movement.

Myth 7: Zenyum doesn’t work because I may need refinements after my clear aligners treatment.

Truth be told, refinements are a natural part of any clear aligner journey, and are done to help you achieve your ideal smile! Because not everything goes according to plan, your teeth may need a gentle nudge to be shifted into their new positions. A few things can cause your teeth not to move according to plan, including not wearing your aligners for the amount of time required, or if your teeth are just plain stubborn.

Unlike traditional braces where the dentist can make minor adjustments to the arch wire during each appointment as you go along, no physical wires are used in clear aligner treatment. Thus, refinement aligners will have to be printed to ensure additional movement.

Not everyone needs refinements, and your treating dentist will let you know what’s the next step for you. And if you don’t need refinements, you can skip to the good part! Your treating dentist may decide that you’re ready to start wearing retainers to help protect the new smile you’ve worked so hard for.

Since we really want you to get your desired smile, we do offer refinement aligner sets for free, provided that you have uploaded at least 75% of the total photos required on the Zenyum App and if it is within your treatment period.

Myth 8: Zenyum doesn’t work because I will need to wear retainers after treatment

After the completion of your Zenyum Invisible Braces treatment (or any orthodontic treatment for that matter), your teeth are not firmly in their new position until the gums, bones and muscles get used to the change. This means that your teeth may still continue to shift as you’re chewing, biting and talking.

So, to keep them as straight as they were when you last ended treatment, your teeth may need a gentle reminder every day to stay in place. Thus, your treating dentist will recommend that you wear retainers. This is to prevent your teeth from moving any further and to keep them in proper alignment for years to come.

Typically, you may need to wear retainers for a longer period of time for the first few months, and then gradually progress to wearing them at night. Your treating dentist will advise you on how long you should wear them for, depending on your unique case.
